Tatiana Mikhina is a photographer based in Moscow, Russia focusing on portrait, nude, ballet dance, underwater, and fashion photography.
Through her images, Tatiana Mikhina showcases the curves and lines found in the naked human body. She creates emotive and dynamic images that use light and shadows to enhance the nude form and establish it as the focus of the photograph. More specifically, she pays careful attention to the image’s composition and carefully builds curves within—be it through the model’s body or the surroundings in the set. Her photographs capture the movement emanated from the nude form. Furthermore, her images highlight the charismatic personality of the models she works with.
In her images, Tatiana Mikhina strives to show the human form in its most natural and raw manner. She avoids creating plastic or artificial images to fulfill her desire to highlight real people. Additionally, she considers clothes to be a distraction in an image. Clothes to her require additional attention and take away from the natural state of the nude form. Furthermore, the fabric takes away and interrupts the envisioned theme she wishes to portray in her photographs.
Tatiana Mikhina’s body of work finds inspiration from the images of French photographer Sara Moon, Italian fashion photographer Paolo Roversi, and French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Additionally, the art of Jewish painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, French post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin, and the impressionists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, also influence her photographic practice. Often imitating her influences, sensuality and eroticism dominate the atmospheres depicted in her own art. Furthermore, one day she hopes to have a photo shoot with nude models and dolphins in the open ocean.
Mikhina grew up in Moscow and attended a chemistry academy in her hometown. She began her art career when she was twenty-five years old. In 2008, she officially began pursuing photography as a profession after creating her first photograph, which formed an optical illusion with a flower seen as a dancer’s skirt. With over ten years of experience in the photography field, her work exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and London. Furthermore, she travels the world as much as possible and collaborates with people from abroad. Through her travels, she had the opportunity to collaborate with various leading ballet dancers from the Russian Ballet in various of her images.
Aside from photography, Tatiana Mikhina creates 3D character animations for movies and cartoons full-time.
